The Honours Review blog is a space for student writers and artists within the University of Groningen to share their interests and creativity in an informal manner. Through the blog, students can formulate and develop their thoughts outside the confines of an academic journal-style format and the rigor expected from a peer-review process.

Do you have a special interest or unique knowledge you would like to share with us? Or perhaps some ideas from a stimulating Honours College course that you would like to explore in further detail? We are looking for contributions!

Every season includes a new theme, which will be communicated through our social media platforms. Submissions will be published on a rolling basis, as they are approved by the board.

Blog submissions will be open and close seasonally on the following dates*:

  • Round 1: October 6th - December 5th

  • Round 2: December 19th - March 1st

  • Round 3: March 16th - May 29th

The current theme for Round 1 is: Harvest and Reflection (Autumn)

Core Idea: Autumn is the season of gathering, balance, and preparation for rest. This period of evolution offers many chances for reflection, providing a lens for exploring how humans and the natural world negotiate change, abundance, decline, and continuity. From climate change impacts to autumnal motifs in artworks, the Honours Review Blog is open to any submission from any discipline! What does it mean to “harvest” knowledge, creativity, or progress? How do cycles of plenty and scarcity shape societies?

Please keep in mind that, unlike the submissions for the 19th edition of the Honours Review, blog submissions do not undergo the peer-review process to assess suitability for publication. Therefore, we strongly suggest that the pieces be reviewed by the authors themselves before submission.  You can find our blog submission guidelines here!

Although we encourage writers to follow our theme, we will review any submission sent regardless! Currently we are accepting submissions for both one-off blog posts and writers who can contribute articles or artwork on a monthly basis. If you are interested in contributing or in joining us as a regular writer, send us a writing sample and a brief motivation letter at honoursreviewrug@gmail.com
